Katherine Doyle from Augusta, Ga. who is the wife of Chris Doyle, Boys Home of Virginia’s executive director, has been appointed as Priest in Charge at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Covington.

Having served as an ordained minister for 11 years at an Episcopal Church in Louisville prior to moving to Covington after Chris was hired in Jan. of 2022, Katherine has high praise for the Alleghany Highlands.

Katherine recalled, “I was a rector in Louisville at the St. Thomas Church for six and a half years, and I ran the youth ministry for the Dioceses of Kentucky for 10 years.”

“I love the small town community, and the scenery here is beautiful,” Katherine remarked.

She and Chris love the outdoors, and they enjoy hiking and running.

Katherine is an avid reader, and she enjoys writing essays. Her blog is “Just Katherine.”

She and Chris have four grown children, Sarah Katherine, 27; Christopher, 25; William, 24; and Caroline, 22.

The couple met while Katherine was completing her graduate studies in 1990, and they were married in 1993.

Katherine holds three degrees, a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia with a double major in English and psychology, a Master of Psychology from Augusta University, 1994; and a Master in Divinity from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 2011.

Katherine’s UVA connection came from Dr. Bill Kanto, her father who was a lineman for the Cavaliers football team from 1958-1962. He grew up in Norton, Va.

Barbara Kanto, Katherine’s mother was a graduate of Hollins College, and Bill and Barbara met in Virginia Beach during their college years.

Katherine, who enjoys sewing, has an older brother, William; and a younger sister, Meredith.

While she misses her friends in Louisville, Chris’ hometown; Katherine concluded, “We have made new friends here, and people are warm and welcoming.”

Emmanuel Episcopal Church is located at 138 N. Maple Ave., and the telephone number is (540) 965-5626.
