Thomas Edward  McCauley 72, passed away January 1, 2023, at the Salem Va Medical Center. Tommy was the son of the late Amos and Connie Newcomer McCauley. A Disabled Combat Wounded Veteran who was in the Army with the 9th Infantry Division, 39th Cavalry, ACV Unit. Born in the Falling Springs area, he is survived by his wife of 50 years Patricia Forbes McCauley and one brother Mike McCauley. Also pre-deceased are a Brother Jimmy McCauley, Sisters Brenda Stanley and Frankie Elmore, sister-in-law Alice Forbes. Also surviving are Nephew’s, David, James, Travis McCauley,  Randy Elmore, William Forbes and Nieces, Lori May, Terrie Powers, Vickey Anderson, Kathy Childs. Also surviving are sister-in-law’s, Vi McCauley, Kathy McCauley, Cindy Forbes and Brother-in-laws Dave Forbes, Jim Forbes and Alton Elmore, also a number of cousins.  Tommy loved fishing, hunting and training his rabbit beagles,  he enjoyed raising birds, peacocks, pheasants, etc. His favorite thing was fishing on his pontoon boat on Lake Moomaw.  He belonged to the Monacan Indian Nation and hand carved a 15 ft. tall Spirit Pole at the Tribal Hall near Madison Heights, Va. in honor of his ancestors and all Monacans. He was a member of the VFW, DAV, Purple Heart. He especially loved going to Ft. Eustis,  Va. with the Army ACV  Brothers for Reunions every 2 years where the last Hovercraft from Vietnam is in the Transportation Museum. While at the Salem Va CLC Unit, he enjoyed watching western’s, playing bingo, fishing. Thank’s to all the Dr’s, Nurses and Caregivers who took such great care of him at the Community Living Center over the years. His body has been cremated as his wish, by Royston Funeral Home, Middleburg, Va.  A  Memorial Service will be at Mt. Carmel  United Methodist Church, 1200 N. Alleghany Ave., Covington, Va. on January 27, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Doug Hollenbeck and the VFW Service.  In liew of flowers Memorial contributions may be made to the Monacan Indian Nation, P.O. Box 1136  Madison Heights, Va. 24572 in memory of Tommy McCauley or to the Mt Carmel United Methodist Church, 1200 N. Alleghany Ave., Covington, Va. 24426
