Tanner Luke Nicely, age 20, of 150 Griffith Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Thursday, January 13, 2022 at his residence.
Tanner was born December 6, 2001 in Alleghany County, Virginia to the late Cynthia Lou VanNess. He was a 2021 graduate of Alleghany High School and worked for Cucci’s Pizzeria, Trani’s Grill, and Bennett’s Sawmill. He loved riding dirtbikes and four wheelers, playing football, and experiencing the holidays. He was the sweetest and most caring person, and would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need.
In addition to his mother Cynthia, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kathleen and Clinton Nicely, and Goldie and Freddie VanNess; special cousins, Justin Baird and Alaisia Smith; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by his brothers, Trevor VanNess of Covington and Anthony Eggleston of Midstone Gap; his grandmother, Catherine VanNess; six aunts, special aunt, Susan Wilhelm and husband Keith, Martha VanNess, Catherine VanNess, Becky Dean, Rosie VanNess, and Dolly VanNess; an uncle, Darrin Nicely; two special boys that he loved very much, Liam and Isaac; a special cousin, Melinda Baird and husband Bruce; his niece, Qwasia Wilson and her children, A’Naeyah and Alaya; a nephew, Omarija Rice; a number of cousins; and a good friend, J. R. Ruff.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday evening, January 20, 2022 at 5:30 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Mr. Chris Fisher and Pastor Brad Armes officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:30 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
