The DSLCC Roadrunners (9-5) headed into their holiday break looking very strong led by their trio of Jaylen Hudson, Noryen Lasley, and Tre McCrary as the team posted 9-3 record.
However, despite their great first half record, the last time the Roadrunners were on the court as a team for in-game competition, December 13th, in a loss against Ferum College.
The Roadrunners were back on the basketball court with back to back home games on Friday and Saturday against Sandhills Flyers (12-6), who are out of Pinehurst, NC.
Unfortunately, the Roadrunners, were blown out in both games by 45 points by the Flyers. Both losses, were the Roadrunners largest points margin of defeat on the season.
One would look at that and say, maybe the holiday break was too long for the Roadrunners.
It’s not though. There is so much credit that can be given to the Flyers who scored 100+ points in both games at the Armory Gym this past weekend.
The talented Flyers dropped 132 bench points in the two games including, 77 bench points in Saturday’s game. That alone shows you how talented the team is from top to bottom.
The Flyers also made it count at the free throw line in the two games as they made 33 of their 38 attempts, while shooting just under 50% from the field in both games.
In their Friday evening game, the Flyers, within the first six minutes of the game took a double-digit lead which the Roadrunners could not rally back from.
In their Saturday game, the Flyers used a 26-2 scoring run to help guide them to a 50 point first half, while holding the Roadrunners to just 14 points.
The trio of Hudson, Lasley, and McCrary, did all they could, but could the trio did not each score in double figures in either game.
The trio had a combined 37 points in the Friday game as McCrary posted a game-high 23 points, while in their Saturday game, the trio had a combined 31 points.
K’knowledge Rawlings dropped in a season-high 17 points in the Friday game, while adding in 15 on Saturday.
The Roadrunners, who have now dropped three games in a row, will look to bounce back this Friday at home against Central Carolina Community College.
