Hometown Halloween will be held in downtown Covington this year.
The city of Covington and Olde Town Covington have announced that the event will be held Friday, Oct. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Main Street.
Two weeks ago, Olde Town Covington had announced that the event had been canceled due to organizational changes.
“Since this is such a popular event for the children of the Alleghany Highlands both organizations have collaborated to
support Hometown Halloween this year. The event will be more of a condensed version than in years past,” said city spokesman Thomas Smals.
Businesses and organizations will be set up on Main Street for trick or treating, there will be a DJ for entertainment and a costume contest. Social distancing and COVID-19 protocols will be in place.
The entrance to the event will be located at Court Avenue and Main Street.
Businesses and organizations desiring to participate should contact Cary Linkswiler at cary.linkswiler@gmail.com or Thomas Smals at tsmals@covington.va.us.
Businesses affected by COVID-19 can contact Olde Town Covington for assistance in purchasing candy.
“Our community is very fortunate to have a number of events going on that weekend, and we encourage you to kick
off your Halloween weekend with us on Friday, October 29,” Smalls said.
