Sidney Lee Spellman, 95, of 1801 Midland Trail, died Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany in Low Moor.
Mr. Spellman was born June 25, 1926, in Alleghany County a son of the late Joseph Edward and Sudie McCullough Spellman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Padgett Spellman, a daughter and son in law Carol Ann and Melvin Fleshman, three sisters Mildred, Lucille, and Shirley, and four brothers Carl, Glenn, Dennis, and Jack.
He served in the United States Army during World War II. He had retired from Westrock from the waste treatment plant. He was a mechanic in the army and continued to enjoy it after his service as well as being a wonderful electrician, carpenter, and jack of all trades. Sid loved to drive and show his 1939 Chevrolet Master Deluxe.
Surviving are his daughter, Diane Behrens and husband John of Ruckersville; two sons Ronald Spellman and Carlos Ann of Blue Ridge, Wayne Spellman and wife Linda of Warrenton; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren to include Kim Raether and husband Nick; two brothers-in-law Fred Padgett of Cary, NC and Gordon Baker of Sweet Springs, WV; two sisters-in-law Janet Baker and husband Bob of Covington, and Eva Spellman of White Sulphur Springs, WV; special friends Larry and Sandra Wolfe, Wesley Wolfe, and Trichia Wolfe Meador and their families; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. William Hartsfield officiating.
The family will receive their friends on Wednesday from noon until service time.
The interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Hunsy Spellman, Don Spellman, Brian Scheulen, Triston Hensley, Trevor Spellman, Scott Strickler, and Wesley Wolfe.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Nick Raether, Larry Wolfe, Paul Lacy, Steve Hicks, David Hurt, John Sprouse, John Bush, Bruce Bradley and Heath Pence.
The arrangements are being handled by Arritt Funeral Home.
