CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – A US Airways Express flight made an emergency landing at Yeager Airport in Charleston after sensors indicated smoke in the cargo hold.
Yeager director Rick Atkinson says the Canadair regional jet was en route from Nashville, Tenn., to Washington, D.C., when it landed at about 8:10 a.m. Thursday. The plane was carrying 23 passengers, including an infant, and three crew members.
Atkinson says there were no injuries and no signs of a fire were found.
He says a closed system on the aircraft with some type of gas under pressure could have developed a leak and produced a fog cloud that might have set off the smoke detectors.
The passengers were being put on other US Airways Express flights to Washington.
