SWOOPE - The Lady Chargers were in a defensive stalemate against the Buffalo Gap girls before Coach Keith Lindsay decided to employ a spread offense near the end of the third quarter.
It proved to be the key difference in this one as the BC girls made a season-high 20-of-26 free throws en route to a 36-23 win over the host Bison.
The Chargers went 12-of-15 from the line in the second half, including going nine of 11 from the stripe in the decisive fourth quarter.
“This game a game in which two teams played excellent defense throughout the entire game,” said Lindsay. “Neither team could get anything going on the offensive end of the floor. Finally late in the third quarter we went to a spread offense and started attacking the basket and they started fouling us.
“This turned out to be a key difference in the game and we shot a season high 20 of 26 from the foul line,” added Lindsay. “Jailyn Ford had a big night on the boards, hauling in 15 rebounds, scoring nine points and going seven of nine from the foul line.”
Ford and fellow senior Alexa Faraone scored nine points each to lead the Chargers offensively, while Jessie O’Conner added seven and Mikayla Colaw chipped in six.
Taylor Grubbs had three and Kayla Lindsay rounded out the Bath County scoring with two points.
Morgan Houle led Buffalo Gap with seven points.
Bath County (2-2 Pioneer, 8-7) returns to action Friday at home at 6 p.m. against Highland County.
