Mountaineers Slip Past Hidden Valley

SALEM – Rashad Chambers picked a good time to have a senior moment.

The AHS big man corralled in Seth Bradley’s missed free throw attempt with Alleghany trailing Hidden Valley 55-54 with 17 seconds remaining and was able to record the stickback for the game-winning basket of Alleghany’s 58-55 win in the consolation semifinals of the K-Guard Holiday Classic at the Salem Civic Center.

Hidden Valley’s Dylan Hodson’s 15-footer from the right wing did not go in and Bradley added a pair of free throws with six-tenths of a second remaining for the final margin.

Bradley led Alleghany with a 19-point, 15 rebound double double, while Chambers recorded a double double himself, finishing with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Kendall Kessinger also reached double digits with 12 points, including two threes.

Casey Smith added five, Jonathan Brown had four and Haden Sellers rounded out the AHS scoring with two points.

Alleghany (6-2) rounds out tournament play today at 4:30 p.m. against Patrick Henry in the consolation finals.
