Dominion Power recently presented a satellite phone to the Bath County Sheriff’s Office to give them the capability to communicate via satellite in emergency situations.
Dominion Power, which operates the Bath County Pumped Storage Project near Mountain Grove, donated the phone after recognizing the need for dependable communications in Bath County.
Due to the lack of cellular phone coverage and poor radio communications in many parts of the county, especially in the Mountain Grove area, Dominion Power felt the addition of the satellite phone would enhance the Sheriff’s Office’s ability to communicate in emergency situations.
“This is something we have had on our wish list for some time,” said Bath County Sheriff Larry Norfleet. “This phone will be a valuable asset to the Sheriff’s Office.”
