Betty Broughman

Betty Sue Long Broughman, 71, of Covington, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

She was the wife of J.D. “Doug” Broughman Jr.

Mrs. Broughman was born Feb. 28, 1940, in Covington, the daughter of the late Delphin Braxton Long and Mabel Booze Long.

A lifetime member of this community, she was an employee of the former Covington National Bank from 1957 until 1971 as bank secretary. Following her employment, she became a homemaker. Mrs. Broughman was of the Methodist faith. She was a member of the Jackson River Garden Club and enjoyed her flower gardens.

Mrs. Broughman is also survived by one sister, Patricia Ann Long of Clifton Forge.

A private graveside service was held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at Alleghany Memorial Park, with the Rev. Douglas E. Hollenbeck officiating.
