HOT SPRINGS – The Bath County girls basketball team opened a boys-girls doubleheader against Highland County with a 77-20 rout of the Rams.
The Lady Chargers jumped out to a 22-2 lead after the first quarter and never looked back as they led 36-12 at the break.
Emily Black paced a trio of Chargers in double figures with 15 points, while Lacey Kirby added 14 and Jessie O’Conner finished with a 13-point, 14-rebound double-double.
Taylor Grubbs and Shelby Roberson scored six points each, Alexa Faraone had five and Jailyn Ford rounded out the Bath County scoring with four points.
The Lady Chargers improved to 3-2 in Pioneer District play and are now 9-7 on the season.
“This was a good game to get everyone quality time and my bench stepped up and played really well,” said Bath County coach Keith Lindsay. “Emily (Black) and Lacey (Kirby) both came off the bench to score double figures for the first time of their varsity career.
“I thought we played very unselfish,” added Lindsay. “We distributed the ball well and everyone scored which makes everyone happy.”
The Chargers will now have a few days to prepare for Wednesday’s showdown at the Cougar Den against Coach Mark Pifer’s Lady Cougars, who currently sit atop the district standings with a perfect 5-0 record.
The Lady Cougars, who have won their last seven, won the first matchup between the two teams in Hot Springs, 58-45.
Action begins at 6 p.m. with the junior varsity game.
