CLIFTON FORGE – A free workshop for children and teens will be held Saturday, February 4 at Clifton Forge School of the Arts.

It is a fine opportunity for area young people to experience a variety of dance movement and basic techniques, that will be offered by Denise Purvis, a native of the Alleghany Highlands, and currently residing in the Richmond area.

Denise Purvis currently performs with the acclaimed dance company, Starr Foster Dance Project, and directs the dance program for the Chesterfield County Specialty Center for the Arts.

She holds a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Dance and Performing/Choreography from the State University of New York at Brockport.

She has an undergraduate degree in dance from Mary Washington University in Fredericksburg. Her faculty positions include SUNY at Brockport and Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY.

Her studies and ongoing training with notable dancers and choreographers include a roster of names: Bill Evans, Sharon Kinney, Bebe Miller, Mark Haim, Barbara Grubel, Eugene Roscoe, Risa Steinberg and Nina Watt.

Purvis has taught at notable dance schools throughout Richmond and Rochester, NY.

She has choreographed several musicals for amateur and professional theater groups.

A recent visit to her family in the Alleghany Highlands and to CFSOTA elicited her enthusiasm and interest in offering an opportunity to more young people to become interested in this expressive form.

The workshop will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4: Group 1: (ages 5-10 yrs) from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and Group 2 (ages 11-18 yrs) from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Please call (540) 862-7275 to reserve a place.
