Dear Sir,
The Historic Masonic Theatre welcomed 2012 with a new year’s party, “The Eve” on December 31 at the Alleghany Golf/Country Club.

The evening was a wonderful success mainly due to the guests that attended. There is no better way to welcome a new year than with friends and family, a first class band and delicious food. “The Eve” provided all three – it went beyond the usual ticketed event and felt more like a huge family reunion with lots of laughter and talented people who could really cut a rug on the dance floor.

When planning “The Eve” the Masonic Theatre fund-raising event committee’s goal was to provide a friendly, welcoming occasion where people could enjoy New Year’s Eve in a comfortable atmosphere. Several out-of-town guests attended and commented on the friendliness of the attendees and the charming venue.

We must extend a huge thank you to our “Eve” guests who are so supportive of the Masonic Theatre’s renovation efforts, a huge thank you to the sponsors of “The Eve”: Highlands Community Bank-Clifton Forge, Johnette and Don Roberts, Jane and Dave Newkirk, Heirlooms Cafe and Catering, Mary and Jack Backels, Chip Snead, and Sonabank-Clifton Forge.

Thank you also to area businesses that contributed their services and/or time and expertise to ensure the success of “The Eve”: Alleghany Printing, Bear Mountain Signs, Kroger’s, Save-a lot, Virginian Review, Racey & Dean Inc., Heirlooms Café and Catering, The Club Car, Old Forge Coffee Co, Alleghany Chamber Office, The Shoe Box & Sports Center.

The exceptional Marc Baskind Trio, Roanoke, with special guest, Dr. Glenn Buck and the delicious A&B Bakery, Covington, provided the essential ingredients of music and food-both were thoroughly enjoyed.

Dedication and commitment are epitomized by the members of the Theatre fund-raising event committee: Jane Newkirk, Joe and Sandi Wilson, Don and Johnette Roberts, Henrietta Crandall, John Hillert, Wilma McClung and Bill Wade. There is something to be said for a job well done-there is even more to be said for a job well done with joy and generosity. Many thanks to this committee.

A gallery of photos, courtesy of Chuck Almarez, Fire & Light Gallery and the Masonic Theatre will be on the Historic Masonic Theatre’s website. Please visit at www.historicm-asonictheatre.com.

I don’t know if “The Eve” will become an annual event but if this year’s party was any indication, “The Eve” could definitely become a cherished tradition.

With gratitude,
Gayle Hillert
