CLIFTON FORGE – Two astronomy courses offered by the Dabney S. Lancaster Community College Non-Credit program have been scheduled in two locations, beginning in February.
Both are taught by John Goss, an amateur astronomer who writes an astronomy column for the Roanoke Times.
“Use that ‘Scope!” is a three-hour workshop on Saturday, February 4, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Moomaw Center on the DSLCC Clifton Forge campus.
Participants will learn how to find objects in the sky with their own telescopes. Tuition is $20.
A four-week observational astronomy course, “Stargazing for the Curious Skywatcher”, will be offered at the Eagle Rock Library in Botetourt County on Thursdays, February 7-28, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Participants will learn to see lunar craters, planets and their moons, constellations and clusters, nebulae and distant galaxies. Tuition is $75, and participants are also asked to bring a planisphere; a telescope is not needed.
To register, contact DSLCC Non-Credit Coordinator Judy Clark at 863-2863 or email jclark@dslcc.edu to register.
The toll free number is (877) 73DSLCC, ext. 2863.
