Dear Editor,
Recently, I witnessed the true meaning of Christmas in the making as the spirit of giving unfolded on Dec 16.
On that date, town employees were treated to a scrumptious meal provided by the town council, local restaurants, department heads, and local residents.
Additionally, Clifton Forge merchants donated gift certificates, savings bonds, and handmade items which were distributed through a drawing to 21 lucky employees.
In my 40-plus years as a local government professional, I have never witnessed such an outpouring of generosity by a community to thank its municipal employees for a “job well done.” We are truly a family in Clifton Forge and I am proud to have joined this wonderful, caring community.
The luncheon and gift giving was spearheaded by Johnette Roberts, with the support of the entire town council.
Merchants who generously supported the employee recognition event included: The Club Car Shop and Deli, First Citizens Bank, Heirlooms of Clifton Forge LLC, Jack Mason’s Tavern, Clifton Forge Main Street, Inc., The Red Caboose, Vic’s Family Restaurant, The Clifton Forge Antique Mall, The Clifton Forge Armory Committee, BB &T Bank, Clifton Forge School of the Arts, The Fire and Light Gallery, Highlands Community Bank, Distributed IT, Johnson Landscape and Lumber, Kroger, Northwest TruValue Hardware, Owen’s Pharmacy, Racey & Dean Real Estate, Sav-A-Lot, The Art Store at the Clifton Forge School of the Arts, and Upper Cuts and Artisans Guild, as well as a donation from an anonymous source.
Thanks to the “Little Town That Can and Does” care for its employees.
Sincerely,
Darlene Burcham
Town Manager
