The Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a local candidate’s forum on this evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Covington City Hall in the council chambers.
The forum is being sponsored by the Chamber in an effort to encourage citizens to become more involved in local government by learning about the issues and positions of each candidate.
The public will be allowed to submit written questions at the forum; a panel of three people will review the questions before they are posed to the candidates.
The moderator will pose the questions to the candidates, and each candidate will have a limited time to respond.
At the end of the forum, each candidate will be given three minutes to present statements about their candidacy and explain why they are running for office and their positions on various issues.
Six candidates will run for Covington City Council: incumbent for District 3, Stephanie Clark, will be running unopposed; incumbent Buddy Brown for District 4 will be opposed by Harrison Scott and Tom Sibold, Jr.; District 5 candidates are David Crosier and Pat Scruggs.
Write in candidates, who have completed their registration through the Voter Registration office may also participate in the candidate forum. Any registered, write-in candidate who would like to participate in the forum should call the Chamber office at 962-2178.
Questions may be submitted in advance by mail to the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism, 241 W. Main Street, Covington, VA 24426 or by e-mail at info@ahchamber.com.
Questions may also be submitted the night of the forum.
Please call the Chamber office at (540) 962-2178 if you have any questions or need additional information.
