A preliminary hearing for a Covington man accused in the capital murder of his son has been continued until February.
The preliminary hearing of Jared Meadows, 25, set for this morning, has been continued until Feb. 17.
Meadows was arrested in October in the murder of his infant son.
The case originated as a call for help on Sept. 24 at 9:45 a.m. with an infant boy who was experiencing difficulty in breathing.
Police and medical personnel went to the residence in the 200 block of North Magazine Avenue and the child was taken to LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany and later to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
The baby died there Sept. 26.
He was 27 days old.
It is Alleghany County’s first capital murder case in almost a decade.
