CLIFTON FORGE – Don Carter has announced a write-in candidacy for Clifton Forge Town Council in November.
Carter is seeking election to the seat vacated by Ralph Jackson.
Carter was born and raised in Selma, moving to Clifton Forge in the early 1990s. He was a Clifton Forge business owner for 18 years before retiring.
Carter was appointed to Clifton Forge council in 2000 to replace George Wallis. He ran for re-election in 2004 and was voted in as mayor in July 2004. He served as a councilman in 2007 and 2008 and was re-elected mayor in 2009.
Carter is an active member of Clifton Forge Main Street Board of Directors, Alleghany Highlands Board of Commissioners of TAP, Alleghany Highlands Economic Development Authority (AHEDA) Board, The Alleghany Highlands Arts and Crafts Center, is a member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Clifton Forge Elks Lodge and is a member of the Clifton Forge Lions Club.
Carter has a daughter who lives in Roanoke and a son who resides in Beckley, W.Va.
“I am so proud of our many volunteers like Clifton Forge Main Street and the farmer’s market,” Carter said. “Over the last few years they have worked hard and maintained great success with the improvements to downtown Clifton Forge.
“I have had many years of experience in serving on town council and would like to continue to help move our town into the future,” Carter added. “Over the last year we have lost a few businesses in Clifton Forge, and my goal would be to fill these buildings with thriving business and bring jobs back to town.
“If I am elected to town council, I will do my best to serve the citizens of Clifton Forge to the best of my ability,” Carter concluded.
