CLIFTON?��FORGE?��- Harry Edward “Buddy” Clark, 83, of Forest, Va.,and formerly of Clifton Forge, died Friday November 25, 2011, at HCR Manor Care in Lynchburg, Va.
He was born February 25, 1928, in Fayette County, West Virginia, a son of the late Harry Clark and Roxie Peters Clark McGlothen.
He was a member of the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, and attended Lakewood Baptist Church in Evington, Va. He was a member of the Son Shine Class and the Sun Rays Club of the church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having been stationed on the Admiral’s Fleet. He was a retired employee of the C&O Railroad with over 40 years of service. He retired in 1986 as a general car foreman.
Harry belonged to several organizations: Clifton Forge Masonic Lodge No. No. 166 A.F. & A.M., Kazim Shrine Temple in Roanoke, held many positions in the Clifton Forge Shrine Club, a member of the Hot Springs Shrine Club and the Roanoke Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Clifton Forge Elks Lodge No. 1065, past president of the Clifton Forge Lion’s Club and the NARVE.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Muriel Piazza; and a brother, Wiley Clark; an infant brother, Immanuel; and an infant sister, Audrey.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lucille Wright Clark; a daughter, Barbara and her husband, Clay Lofland, of Forest, Va.; two sisters, Dale Craft and her husband, James, of Covington, Va., Shirley Miller, of Hartfield, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Harry’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge, with the Rev. Paul S. Brokaw and the Rev. W. Pembroke Hall officiating. Entombment will immediately follow in the chapel mausoleum of Alleghany Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be, Robert Sutphin, Glenn Perry, Jim Eller, Ronnie Swoope, Jim Linkenhoker and Berkley Persinger.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Nicely Funeral Home.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Harry’s memory to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Greenville, S.C., in care of Jim Eller 1201 Crestwood Ave., Clifton Forge, Va. 24422.
