William Carter “Bill” Jennings, Sr., 83, of Salisbury died Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born January 11, 1929 in Covington, he was the son of the late James Alan and Stella Carter Jennings.
Mr. Jennings was educated in the Covington, schools and served in the National Guard. He was a former member of Trinity Baptist Church in Spencer, a member of the Spencer Moose Lodge for 49 years, the Spencer Masonic Lodge No. 543 A.F. & A. M. for 35 years, and was a former Spencer Board of Alderman.
He was employed for Owens Illinois Packaging for 33 years before retiring and served on the Spencer Police Department Auxiliary for 34 years and was a Special Deputy with the Rowan Sheriffs Department for 16 years.
His wife of 47 years, Dorothy Virginia May Jennings preceded him in death on October 10, 1993.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Kip Jennings and wife Karen of Salisbury; daughter, Sharon Machovina of Salisbury; brother, Meredith Jennings of Covington; sister, Sue Jane Farmer of Natural Well; grandchildren, Chad Allen Jennings and wife Jennifer of Salisbury, Jennifer Ann Jennings of Spencer, Crystal Cook and husband Randy of Salisbury; great-grandchildren, Heather and Jonathan Troutman, Daniel Michael Kelly, Jessie Link; and three great-great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rowan Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Rev. Mike Motley, minister of Trading Ford Baptist Church officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. Wednesday at Summersett Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home of Kip and Karen Jennings.
