Today’s Headline: Amateur Program Wednesday Night At Strand Theater.
It was learned today from the committee in charge that all plans are now complete for the big amateur show to be put on at the Strand Theater Wednesday night, April 8, by the local Post of the American Legion.
Miss Oliver Jones of New York is the guest of Mrs. Frederic Sterry at her cottage, “The Pillars.”

FIFTY YEARS AGO
April 6, 1961
Today’s Headline: Full Scholarship Awarded Valley High School Senior.
A 17-year-old Valley High School senior who possesses both brains and beauty in equal proportions has been awarded a full scholarship to Berea College in Kentucky.
Miss Christine Barbee, who is employed in Washington, D.C., spent the Easter holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.U. Barbee in Iron Gate.

April 6, 1986
Today’s Headline: Gathering Place To Reopen Tonight.
The Gathering Place, a victim of the November flood, will have a grand re-opening tonight from 7 until 11 p.m. The Gathering Place is located at 280 W. Riverside Avenue on the top floor of the old educational wing of Covington Baptist Church.
Frances Arthur of Dolly Ann Apartments entered Alleghany Regional Hospital Wednesday at 11:45 p.m. She is in room 632.

April 6, 2006
Today’s Headline: Lease Extended on True Value in Covington.
The owner of the True Value Home Center on Lexington Avenue in Covington has negotiated on his lease and is restocking merchandise. The company has operated at the Lexington Street location for 23 years and has 10 full-time employees.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1033 met at the post home Thursday, March 16.
