FRANKLIN, W.Va. – The Bath County baseball team picked up its first win of the season Tuesday after topping the Pendleton County Wildcats, 9-3.
Tyler Deeds hurled a complete game to pick up the win on the mound for the Chargers. Deeds gave up three runs (all earned) on five hits, while striking out four, walking two and hitting one batter.
“Tyler pitched a great game and kept the walks to a minimum,” said Bath County skipper Kris Phillips.
The Chargers grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but Pendleton countered with two runs in the home half of the inning to cut their deficit to one.
Bath County added single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings before putting the game away with three insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
Derek Brinkley led the Chargers’ 12-hit attack with a 3-for-4, three RBI day at the plate. Brinkley belted a solo home run in the top of the fifth.
Deeds and Ryan Plecker both went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Dillon Fry, Josh Robertson, Jonah Ford, Chris Nichols and Michael Criser had one hit each.
“We played errorless baseball and we actually looked like a baseball team out there on the field,” added Phillips.
“Everyone hit the ball well. I think we are going to get better as the season goes along.”
Bath County (1-1) will be back in action Monday at Richwood, W.Va.
