May 21, 1936
Today’s Headline: Rotary Names Covington Man As District Governor.
W.A. Luke Jr., of Covington, paper mill executive, was elected district governor today at the 56th District of Rotary Convention.
Mr. F.M. Robinson, manager of the Robinson Taxi Service, has arranged to operate a bus line in Covington and vicinity, the new bus schedule being announced to start Monday, May 25.
The buses will cover the entire territory of Rayon, Covington and Dry Run.
The new bus service will cover the same territory formerly taken by the Covington Transportation Company.

May 21, 1961
Today’s Headline: Officers Of Alleghany Roughs Elected.
New officers have been elected to the Alleghany Roughs Chapter, Children of the Confederacy. Officers are Loretta Smith, president; Gail Robinson, chaplain; Maurice King, custodian; Carolyn Smith, recording secretary; Jean Carson, first vice-president; Kammie King, Ways and Means Committee co-chairman; Eugene Kounse, second vice-president; Beth Davis, Ways and Means Committee co-chairman and Linn Waddell, historian.

Today’s Headline: Former Radio Announcers Plan Reunion.
Former radio announcers at WKEY in Covington will join together Friday for a special broadcast reunion from 2-4 p.m. on the same day the station went on the air in 1941.
Part of the celebration of the station’s 45th anniversary this year, the reunion will include Larry Dodd, Bill Zimmerman, Bill Kidd, Gordon Lewis and Dave Minter.

The Alleghany Highlands 2007 Planning Committee met Wednesday, May 10. The meeting was held at the Governmental Complex in Low Moor.
The Rev. W. Ed Mansfield will speak Sunday at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church for Men’s Day.
