Today’s Headline: Mr. Johnson Named To School Board.
The Alleghany County Trustee Electoral Board last night selected J.G. Johnson of Cliftondale as the new member of the Alleghany County School Board to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Dr. H.S. Smyth.
Mrs. C.P. Saunders, who has been ill in her home on McCormick Street for the past two weeks, is much improved.

March 31, 1961
Today’s Headline: Celebrates Clifton Forge Lions 26th Charter Night.
The Clifton Forge Lions Club celebrated its 26th annual Charter Night at the Homestead Hotel in Hot Springs last night. Senator Hale Collins of Covington was guest speaker for the event.
The Rich Patch Home Demonstration Club will meet Thurs., April 6 at 12:55 for a luncheon at the home of Mrs. F.L. Jones.

March 31, 1986
Today’s Headline: Flood-Weakened Building Collapses.
The rear section of a four-story Main Street building that houses the storage and siaply areas of the Hosue of Carpets in Clifton Forge collapsed Sunday morning causing an unspecified amount of damage.
At least five forest fires burned approximately five acres over the weekend in the Highlands on U.S. Forest land and private land, according to Alan Dale Craft, Virginia forest warden.

March 31, 2006
Today’s Headline: Byer Sworn In As Alleghany County Clerk Of Court.
Debra Byer was sworn in as Alleghany County Circuit Court Clerk by Circuit Court Judge Malfourd W. “Bo” Trumbo. Byer was sworn in to replace Mike Wolfe, who died Saturday.
After months of delays, The Salvation Army’s new building project will soon be getting off the ground with the start of the first of a three-phase plan.
