Registrations For Youth Sports Set Next Week

Both the Covington and Alleghany County Parks and Recreation Departments have set registration dates and times for their youth sports programs for the upcoming fall seasons:

Alleghany County

Youth & Flag Football
Equipment Pickup – Monday, August 13, at 5 p.m. (Alleghany East A); 5:30 p.m. (Alleghany West A); 6 p.m. (Alleghany West B); 6:30 p.m. (Alleghany East B); Tuesday, August 14 at 5 p.m. (Alleghany East C); 6 p.m. (Alleghany West C); 7 p.m. (Alleghany Central C)
First Day of Practice – Monday, August 20. Alleghany East at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College; Alleghany West at Covington Moose Lodge
NFL Punt, Pass and Kick Competition – Thursday, August 23, at 6 p.m., at Clifton Middle School
Official Weigh-Ins – Thursday, August 23, at Clifton Middle School, at 6 p.m. (All Alleghany County teams); 7 p.m. (All Covington teams); Monday, August 27, at Bath County Parks & Recreation Department, 6 p.m. (All Bath County teams)
Season Begins: Monday, September 10 (A and B leagues); Tuesday, September 11 (C and Flag leagues)
Super Bowl: A and B leagues. Saturday, October 27, at Bath County

Cheerleading
Coaches Meeting – Thursday, August 16, at 6 p.m., at Alleghany County Governmental Complex
Mandatory Uniform Sizing – Monday, August 20, at 6 p.m., (Alleghany East and West, A and B leagues), at Alleghany County Governmental Complex
Season Begins: Monday, September 10

Girls Basketball
Coaches Meeting – Wednesday, August 15, at 6 p.m., at Alleghany County Governmental Complex
First Day of Practice – Monday, August 20
Season Begins: Tuesday, September 11

Covington

Youth & Flag Football
Sign-Ups and Equipment Pick Up
A League (11-13 year-olds), Monday and Tuesday, August 13 and 14, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Covington Armory
B League (9-10 year-olds), Tuesday and Wednesday, August 14 and 15, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Covington Armory
C League (instructional, 7-8 year-olds), Wednesday and Thursday, August 15 and 16, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Covington Armory
Flag Football (5-6 year-olds), Wednesday and Thursday, August 15 and 16, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Covington Armory.

Cheerleading
Sign-Ups – A League (11-13 year-olds) and B League (8-10 year-olds), Monday through Wednesday, August 13-15, 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Covington Armory
Girls Basketball
Sign-Ups – A League (11-13 year-olds), B League (9-10 year-olds) and C League (7-8 year-olds), Monday through Thursday, August 13-16, 9 a.m. to noon and 3 to 5 p.m., at the Recreation Office at City Hall. League ages as of October 1: (8th Graders are not eligible)
