Homer Edward Cash, 79 of 409 E. Phillip Street, died Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany in Low Moor.
He was born February 26, 1932 at Mallow in Alleghany County, a son of the late Jeffery Richard and Josephine Douglas Cash.
Mr. Cash was a veteran of the Korean War with United States Army and was a prisoner of war.
He was the owner/operator of Cash Electric and Appliance Service in Covington for over 40 years.
He was a former member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Covington and attended Gospel Lighthouse Church in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
He was a member of the Curtis A. Smith Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Cash was an avid golfer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard Cash, Leroy Cash and Randy Cash.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Beatrice Fitzgerald Cash of Covington, three sons, Michael E. Cash , Sr. and his wife, Jennifer of Newton, N.C.; Alan Dale Cash and his wife Margaret of Christiansburg and Michael Edward Cash, Jr. of Covington; two granddaughters, Chanelle Gonzalez of Vallejo, Calif. and Mary P. Kiger of Greensboro, Md.; four grandsons, Michael Stout of Texas; Zachary Stout of Burlington, Vt.; Jeff Stout of Bozeman, Mont. and Jeremy Stout of Covington; three great grandchildren, Michael Cash III; Timothy Dale Cash and Pierce Kiger.; one sister Vivian Martin of Covington; two brothers, Robert Cash and his wife Colleen of Stuarts Draft and Jack Cash of Aurora, Ill., and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday in the Arritt Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Charles Fury officiating.
The interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery with graveside rites conducted by the Virginia Army/National Guard Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be selected from grandsons and friends attending.
