BUENA VISTA – Josh Bush shot a career-best 89, helping Covington to a 396 at a Pioneer District golf mini-tournament Tuesday at Vista Links.
The Cougars finished third amongst the four teams, behind James River and Parry McCluer.
“That’s a personal best for Josh,” said CHS coach Rob Bennett. “I’m always joking with him and asking him to break 100. He went above and beyond that today. It just shows that hard work pays off.”
Aaron Boswell added a 92 for the Cougars, Megan Lockhart shot a 105 and Travis Warlitner added a 110.
Other Covington players included Holden Broughman with a 121 and Brian Clemons with a 122.
“We haven’t broken 400 in an 18-hole match since my first year,” Bennett added. “We don’t have anything for James River or Parry McCluer, but it’s good to see the scores keep improving. I’m proud of that score as a team.”
Bath County was paced by Clay Robertson with a 92, while Noah Burns (108), Josh Chestnut (113), Brandon Via (118) and Monroe Lee (138) also participated.
James River’s Korey Watts was the match medalist with a 2-over-par 74 and the Knights bested Parry McCluer by 32 shots for the team win.
The Pioneer District teams will play at 2 p.m., 18-hole match on Thursday at Cliff View Golf Club in Falling Spring.
