HOT SPRINGS – The Bath County baseball team bounced back from last Friday’s loss to James River to knock off Pocahontas, W.Va. Monday in five innings, 11-1.
Tyler Deeds threw a complete game three-hitter to earn the mound victory for the Chargers. Deeds allowed one run on three hits, while striking out three and walking one.
“Tyler did an outstanding job on the mound for us,” said Bath County coach Kris Phillips. “He located his pitches well. We were also very aggressive on the base paths and I think that really played a factor in the win.”
The Chargers (4-6) scored a single run in the bottom of the first and the Warriors were able to knot things up with a run in the top of the third, but the Chargers answered.
Bath County responded with a six-spot in the bottom of the third and added three more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to put the 10-run mercy rule into effect.
Dillon Fry, Cody Plecker, Derek Brinkley, Josh Robertson, Deeds and Chris Nichols had one hit each for the Chargers with Robertson and Michael Criser driving in a pair of runs.
Bath County is back in action today on the road at Pioneer District rival Covington. First pitch is slated for 5:30 p.m.
“Hopefully this win will give us some momentum heading into tomorrow’s district game against Covington,” added Phillips.
