She was born on Oct. 6, 1921, in Mattoon, Ill., to the late William M. and Gladys Sheeks Malone.

Mrs. Crackel was a homemaker throughout her life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. George E. Crackel in 2004; a sister, Betty Houpt; and two brothers, Lester Malone and Robert “Bob” Malone.

She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Crackel, and his wife, Renee of Clifton Forge; two grandchildren, Ryan Crackel of Reston and Erin Crackel of New York, N.Y.; two sisters, Dorothy Ann Wallace and Nancy Malone, both of Mattoon, Ill.; two brothers, Charles “Chuck” Malone of Mattoon, Ill., and Gene Lee Malone of Chicago, Ill.; and a number of nieces and nephews, including a special niece Leellyn Wallace of Mattoon, Ill.

In keeping with Mrs. Cracker’s wishes, her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held in her hometown of Mattoon, Ill. at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
