Camp ACCOVAC Will Host Family Weekend

MILLBORO – Camp Accovac will host Family Camp Weekend Oct. 12-14.

The theme for the weekend will be “Building Blocks for Christian Living,” with the Rev. Bob Copeland, senior pastor of Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church in Four Oaks, N.C.

The weekend will begin with a Friday spaghetti dinner at 6 p.m., followed by an evening service at 7:30. On Saturday, the service times will be 9:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. The evening worship service will include music.

Saturday activities will include a skeet-shooting tournament, dedicated to the memory of Sonny Nicely, from 1 to 3 p.m. Two activities will be held simultaneously from 3 to 5 p.m. – a horse shoe tournament, in honor of Fred Whiting, and a golf chipping contest, dedicated to the memory of Clovis Vess.

Also on Saturday, there will be a .22-caliber target shooting contest for ages 8 to 12 from 11 a.m. to noon; a silent auction from 1 to 4 p.m.; archery, bounce houses and pumpkin carving. A craft classing featuring fall floral arranging will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. The class will be dedicated to the memory of Barbara Nicely.

Sunday, Bible classes for all ages will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a worship service at 11 a.m. A luncheon will be held at 12:30 p.m.

Food and lodging will be available throughout the weekend.

Pre-registration is re-quested for lodging. There will be no fee for the weekend, which includes meals, lodging and worship services. Donations will be accepted for the Camp Accovac general fund, however.

There will be a $10 entry fee for the skeet tournament. The entry fee for the horseshoe and golf chipping tournaments will be $5.

Camp Accovac is located two miles northeast of Millboro Springs on Routes 39 and 42. The camp is owned by the Virginia Conference of the Advent Christian Church.
