Bystanders were puzzled when they saw two prominent young ladies of Covington alternately pushing one another down Main Street in a wheelbarrow at noon today.
The two popular ladies, Miss Hilliard McCaleb and Miss Helen Driscoll, performed their barrow-pushing act on a bet with Wilbur Smith. They won and provided quiet, hot, old Main Street with some healthy, cooling laughter.

Today’s Headline: Nicely’s Plea ‘Not Guilty’.
Cecil Nicely, of RFD 1, Clifton Forge, today waived jury trial in Alleghany Circuit Court and pleaded not guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter. Nicely is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Lynwood E. Brown Jr. of Clifton Forge in a November 17 auto accident.
Mrs. James Knight, Marty Hill and Tommy Van Buren of Falls Church are visiting Mrs. Knight’s father, John Van Buren.

Today’s Headline: Tracy Wrenn Does It Again; Joined By Golden As Champ.
Tracy Wrenn defended her state championship in the 800-meters Saturday and Rob Golden won his first state title in the 3200-meter run to give Alleghany High School a pair of state champions at the Group AA track meet at William and Mary.
Dabney S. Lancaster Community College’s Theatre is awarding two $300 talent scholarships, one to an incoming student and one to a returning student.
