HOT SPRINGS – For the second time in two nights, Bath County’s girls basketball team played a game to the wire.
Wednesday night they found a way to come out on top.
Jessie O’Conner’s jumper with 20 seconds left provided the winning margin as the Chargers nipped Pendleton County, W.Va., 25-24.
O’Conner led Bath (1-1) with 10 points and 11 rebounds – her second straight double-double – as the home team overcame 32 turnovers.
“The game against Petersburg the night before took a lot out of us,” said BCHS coach Keith Lindsay. “Our defense kept us in the game.”
Mikayla Colaw and Kendal Woodzell both hit key free throws for the winners down the stretch.
Taylor Grubbs added 10 points for the Chargers, who host Pocahontas County, W.Va., on Friday night.
“We have got to get better with our passes and our perimeter shooting if we are going to make an impact in the Pioneer District,” concluded Lindsay.
