CLIFTON FORGE – The C&O Historical Society will host its 2013 George Washington’s Train Show February 16 and 17 in Clifton Forge.
The train show is an annual fundraiser for the society.
It will include:
– A large, interactive S-gauge train layout and a “Thomas” cab for children;
– Vendors with train collectibles, models, railroad antiques, toys and more;
– Free railroad antique appraisals;
– Book signings by James Casto, author of “The C&O Railway” and “Southern West Virginia Coal Country” and Dale Diacont, author of “Yesterday’s Trains Across the Commonwealth”;
– On site “American Flyer” repair;
– Face painting;
– Food and beverages;
– Alleghany Highlands Arts and Crafts will be on site with a children’s craft table. For a small fee, children can make a Lifesaver locomotive;
– Blue Ridge Live Steamers at the C&O Railway Heritage Center.
Admission to the Train Show is $5 per person and includes admittance to the C&O Railway Heritage Center at 705 E. Main Street Clifton Forge. Admission includes rides on a miniature train.
The show will be held Saturday, February 16, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Sunday, February 17, from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m.
In conjunction with the George Washington’s Train Show, the Clifton Forge School of the Arts, located at 518 Church St., Clifton Forge, will offer the following:
– “The Friday Doodle & Color Class,” from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15. Bring lunch. Judith Sivonda will teach the art of doodles and coloring books for relaxation, inspiration and fun.
Whether you are an artist or not, you will learn how to design a Zentangle doodle, using Micron pens, or how to mix colored pencils to complete a coloring masterpiece. Cost is $10, materials included.
– Bluegrass Jam Session, Friday, Feb. 15, in CFSOTA’s Gallery, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
– “Draw Your Own Chessie,” Saturday, Feb. 16, from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. No drawing experience is required.
Students will create their own version of the beloved Chesapeake & Ohio feline. Cost is $15 and includes materials. Instructor will be Judith Sivonda.
