ELLISTON – Coach Mark Pifer has his Lady Cougars off to their best start in years after they improved to 3-0 on the young season with a 62-14 trouncing of the Eastern Montgomery Mustangs.
The Cougars defense forced the Lady Mustangs into 30 turnovers on the night and held them to just 3-of-47 from the field on the night.
Covington jumped out to a 20-4 lead after one and led 35-6 as they cruised to the non-district win.
Shanice Laws led the Lady Cougars with a 22-points, 10 rebound double-double.
Sa’Mone Moore added 17 points and five steals, while Autumn Phillips also reached double figures with 10 points on five-of-five shooting from the floor.
Cassie Ratliff led the Mustangs with nine points.
Covington (3-0) now starts preparing for Friday’s home game with the undefeated Glenvar Highlanders (2-0), who knocked off William Byrd last night 58-33.
The Covington junior varsity girls basketball team opened its season last night with a 37-16 loss to the Eastern Montgomery JVs.
Montana Hall led the CHS JVs with 11 points, while Sade Yancey had four and Autumn Woodson had one.
Dakota Shepherd led the East Mont junior varsity with 10 points.
