Fire destroyed a garage and damaged a home in two separate incidents Wednesday and today in Covington.
Covington Fire Department was called to 1522 Mountain View Drive off of Dolly Ann Drive Wednesday at 3:30 p. m. where a garage was on fire.
The garage was destroyed but the adjacent house was not damaged. Estimated damage is $100,000 according to Covington Fire Chief Wes Walker.
Inside the garage were two vehicles, a tractor and four riding lawn mowers. No one was home at the time of the fire which was reported by a neighbor.
Covington had 24 firefighters on the scene, three engines and a utility truck and the Covington Rescue Squad.
The fire department was assisted by Selma Fire Department and Boiling Springs Fire Department. Sharon Fire Department stood by at the Covington fire house.
This morning Covington firefighters were called to a flue fire at 2035 Jefferson Street where the blaze was extinguished.
The dwelling had heavy smoke and water damage in the wall and floor area.
Estimated damage is $8,500.
Covington Fire Chief Walker said the fire is suspected to have started in a crack in the flue which caught floor joists on fire.
Covington Fire Department and Rescue Squad had 12 firefighters, two engines and a utility truck at the scene.
