Today’s Headline: Banquet Held By Young People At ‘Church On The Hill.’
A most enjoyable event was the Young People’s banquet of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, held last evening in the banquet hall of the church.
Attractive programs carrying out the St. Patrick’s Day season were used as place cards on the table, the color scheme of green and white being most effectively used throughout the splendid meal.

Today’s Headline: Browns Will Reopen Store In This Area.
Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Brown today announced the re-opening of their store at 424 Ridgeway in Clifton Forge after 13 years. The previous store was open from 1945 to 1950 when the Clifton Forge and Covington stores were combined and re-located at 245 W. Main Street, Covington.
Mr. Brown first went into business in the Hammond Building in Covington in 1943 carrying records, sheet music and music accessories.
Mr. Brown managed the Covington store while the Clifton Forge store was under the management of Mrs. Pauline Surber.

Today’s Headline: City Police Radio System Upgraded.
With installation and implementation nearly 80 percent complete, the Covington Police Department will reap the benefits of a new radio system for the police station was well as in the patrol cars.
Also installed was a new 100 foot tower and antenna near High Acres for the system. The new antenna is double the height of the previous system.

Today’s Headline: Alleghany School Board Adopts $30.8 Million Budget For 2008-09.
The Alleghany County School Board approved a $30.8 million budget proposal Monday that does not call for an increase in local funding.
The budget, approved unanimously by the school board during a meeting at Clifton Middle School, now goes to the Alleghany County Board of Supervisors for funding consideration.
