LEXINGTON – Beth Mason scored six fourth-quarter points and Alleghany was a perfect 6-for-6 at the line in the final stanza in a 52-46 Blue ridge District win over Rockbridge County Friday night.
The Mountaineers led 36-34 after three quarters.
Paige Irvine, Kelsey Brown and Savannah Beard were all 2-for-2 at the stripe in the final eight minutes.
Brown made 8-of-12 free tosses in the game on the way to a team-high 12 points, Mason had 11, while Irvine and Beard both had eight each.
Lauren Rowsey led the Wildcats (0-3 Blue Ridge District, 2-10 overall) with 15 points, while Keely Fresh added 12.
The Mountaineers (2-1, 6-7) will host Lord Botetourt on Tuesday night.
In Friday’s JV game, Alleghany moved to 9-3 on the year with a 46-32 win.
After falling behind 9-1 early, the Mountaineers led 18-15 at the half.
India Green had 17 points for the winners, Cristen Walton scored eight, Latisha Chambers had six, Kari Simmons, Sarah Loving and Rachel Hepler all had four, while Casey Burgess scored three.
