CLIFTON FORGE – The Friends of the Clifton Forge Public Library are sponsoring a “Burns Night/Scottish Heritage” fundraiser on Thursday evening, Jan. 31, starting at 6 p.m.
There will be a full program of music – both instrumental and vocal – poetry, storytelling, a short history of the Clydesdale horse breed, door prizes, and more.
The main program will be followed by heavy appetizers catered by Heirlooms Café and supplemented by additional refreshments from the Hospitality Committee and the library director.
Local talent will appear in instrumental and vocal solos, but there will also be an opportunity for a group singing of “Auld Lang Syne,” a song written by Robert Burns.
Burns (1759-1796) was Scotland’s most celebrated poet. The evening will focus on poetry and songs of Burns, but will also include highlights of the Scots-Irish heritage that is part of the Alleghany High-lands.
Tickets are $8 each with a 10 percent discount to current Friends of the Library members. Tickets are to be paid for at the door, but advance reservations are required.
Call the library at (540) 863-2519 to reserve.
