Dear Sir,
The Alleghany Highlands YMCA just completed the first Fitness for Food Campaign. The campaign focused on getting people moving and giving back to our community.
For a month, participants tracked their steps using pedometers and a conversion chart for other activities besides walking. For every 10,000 steps one can of food would be donated to our local food pantries.
We are proud to say that we had 90 individuals get involved in the campaign. We logged 10,539,559 steps and will be donating 1,054 cans of food. We are so excited about the results of the campaign and want to thank everyone who participated.
The YMCA is focusing on preventative health and encouraging our community members to get active and get healthy in a safe and fun way. We do this by providing fun events such as the Fitness For Food Campaign and through joining the YMCA. As a member, you have access to group exercise classes, cardio and strength training machines, indoor walking track, indoor gym and the indoor aquatic center.
In addition, we have caring and supportive staff available to assist members in achieving a healthy lifestyle. The YMCA is committed to ensuring that anyone who would like to be a part of the YMCA is able to through our financial assistance program. If you have not yet visited the YMCA, we invite you to come for a tour. Local residents are provided a one day pass to try out the YMCA.
Sincerely,
Gwen Bagley
