CLIFTON FORGE - The Clifton Forge Lions Club met Thursday, Nov. 11, at Scott Hill with 17 members present.
The Rev. Glenn Linthicum, secretary, presided, and Skip and Betty McMullen led the singing.
Jim Drewry led the pledge and Bill Colvin gave the evening prayer.
Lion Ella Lebleu prepared and served dinner.
She was assisted by Denise Feury and Mae Hughes.
The announcements included:
– The next zone meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 16, in Bath County at 6 p.m. The meeting replaced the annual Thanksgiving meeting.
– The annual Clifton Forge Christmas Parade will be held Friday, Dec. 3. The Lions Club will assist with the parade.
– The annual “Kids Meet Santa” breakfast will be held Saturday, Dec. 4, in the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church fellowship hall. Clifton Forge Main Street and Lions Club members will prepare and serve a pancake breakfast. Santa will make an appearance.
– The next regular meeting of the club will be Dec. 9 at Scott Hill. The meeting will feature the club’s annual Christmas Party and Ladies Night. Activities will begin at 6:30 p.m.
– The annual Lions-sponsored radiothon will be held Dec. 11 in Covington.
Club business included reading and approval of minutes from the Oct. 28 meeting.
Club programs were discussed at length. The primary focus of the discussions was community outreach by the club. The club is also seeking a new partner for its eyeglass program, as well as a source of funding.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the club was informed that its president, Preston Reid, was hospitalized at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany.
Craig Hudson won the attendance prize. The 50/50 winner was John Myles.
