The following is an activity report for the Covington Fire Department for the month of September.
During the month, the department responded to 15 calls for service.
Of those, all 6 were calls within the city of Covington, while 9 were located in Alleghany County.
Firefighters logged 56 miles and 34 hours while responding to calls for service in the city.
Firefighters logged 243 miles and 103 hours while responding to calls for service in the county.
Command units responded on an average of one minute, 58 seconds during the month, and arrived on the scene on an average of seven minutes, 27 seconds.
Responding apparatus marked en-route to calls on an average of four minutes, 20 seconds and arrived on the scene on an average of 11 minutes.
Of the calls received during the month, five were mutual aid calls, four were motor-vehicle accidents, three were false alarms, one brush fire, one hazardous materials call and one miscellaneous call.
An average of 14 firefighters responded to calls during the month.

Call 171 – Wed., Sept. 1, 9:12 p.m. The department was called to 114 Cool Valley Ln. to assist the Boiling Springs Fire Department. Twenty-two firefighters and three pieces of equipment responded.
Call 172 – Sat., Sept. 4, 9:57 a.m. The department was called to Interstate 64, mile marker 21, for a motorcycle accident. Twelve firefighters and two pieces of equipment responded.
Call 173 – Sat., Sept. 4, 12:06 p.m. The department was called to Interstate 64, mile marker 14, for a camper shell that had come off of a truck. Fourteen firefighters and two pieces of equipment responded.
Call 174 – Mon., Sept. 6, 1:49 p.m. The department was called to 1447 S. Carolton Dr. for an alarm activation. No fire was found. Thirteen firefighters and two pieces of equipment responded.
Call 175 – Mon., Sept. 6, 5:07 p.m. The department was called to 409 Sally Ann Dr. for a diesel fuel spill. Seven firefighters and two pieces of equipment responded.
Call 176 – Wed., Sept. 8, 1:06 p.m. The department was called to Stop-In on Durant Rd. for mulch on fire. Fifteen firefighters and four pieces of equipment responded.
Call 177 – Fri., Sept. 10, 10:38 p.m. The department was called to MeadWestvaco’s Extruder Plant in Low Moor to assist the Selma Fire Department at the scene of an electrical fire. Nineteen firefighters and three pieces of equipment responded.
Call 178 – Tues., Sept. 14, 8:43 p.m. The department was called to set up a landing zone for LifeGuard 10 at the Mallow Mall for the Covington Rescue Squad. Twenty firefighters and four pieces of equipment responded.
Call 179 – Fri., Sept. 17, 9:30 a.m. The department was called to assist the Covington Rescue Squad at Dolly Ann Apartments. Three firefighters responded.
Call 180 – Sun., Sept. 19, 8:47 a.m. The department was called to the Quality Inn, 429 W. Main St., for a fire alarm activation. The alarm was set off by burned toast. Five firefighters and one piece of equipment responded.
Call 181 – Wed., Sept. 22, 5:32 a.m. The department was called to the 100 block of E. Hawthorne St. for an fluid leak from a motor-vehicle accident. Four firefighters and two pieces of equipment responded.
Call 182 – Wed., Sept. 22, 10:14 p.m. The department was called to the Valley Brook Inn, 908 Valley Ridge Road, for a fire alarm activation. Nineteen firefighters and two pieces of equipment responded.
Call 183 – Thurs., Sept. 23, 3:49 p.m. The department was called to Hematite Lane to assist the Dunlap Fire Department at the scene of a brush fire. Seventeen firefighters and three pieces of equipment responded.
Call 184 – Tues., Sept. 28, 5:27 a.m. The department was called to Interstate 64 to assist the Selma Fire Department at a motor-vehicle accident. Eleven firefighters and three pieces of equipment responded.
Call 185 – Wed., Sept. 29, 8:04 p.m. The department was called to the 400 block of S. Craig Ave. for a motor-vehicle accident. Seventeen firefighters and two pieces of equipment responded.
