Boys’ Home held its 50th Annual Cottage Christmas Decorating Contest on Saturday, December 11, 2010.
The residents decorated their cottages inside and out. The judges were from the Natural Bridge Speedway Auxiliary in Rockbridge County. They toured the campus and cottages, joined the residents for dinner and afterward spent time visiting with the residents of Jack Gordon Cottage.
The first decorating contest was held on December 19, 1960, when Paul Siple, former coach and associate director, arranged for members of the Mountain River Garden Club to visit the campus and judge the decorations.
The cottages were judged in three categories: Christmas Tree, Inside Decorations and Outside Decorations.
Christmas trees were provided by the Boys’ Home Tree Farm which is located in Augusta County.
