WARM SPRINGS – MaryAnn “Maggie” Anderson has accepted the position of tourism director in Bath County.
The Bath County Board of Supervisors announced Anderson’s appointment Friday afternoon.
Anderson comes to this position after serving as vice president and executive director of the National Association of Theater Owners from 1988 through 2008.
She and her husband, Wayne, are partners in Anderson Consulting, which provides guidance on feasibility and construction of motion picture theaters.
Mrs. Anderson holds a bachelor’s degree in art history from the University of California at Riverside and a master’s degree in library science from the University of Oregon at Eugene.
She began her career as a librarian for the Burbank Public Library, where she was tapped to develop the Warner Research Collection, a specialized library in Burbank, Calif., dedicated to the motion picture production industry.
She was a manager at CBS Television in the docudrama division (fact-based movies for television). She has also served on several non-profit boards, most recently the Will Rogers Picture Pioneers, where she chaired a committee to provide funding for neo-natal intensive care equipment nationwide.
Mrs. Anderson will be working with the community to implement the first phase of the Bath County Tourism Plan, adopted by the board of supervisors in January 2010.
“We are truly delighted to have MaryAnn lead our tourism efforts here in Bath County,” said Peter Faraone, vice president and general manager of The Homestead who also served on the committee charged with selecting Bath County’s first tourism director.
“MaryAnn is the ideal choice to lead this countywide program so all business will prosper for years to come, due to her extraordinary skills in communications and ability to inspire and motivate people,” Faraone added.
Anderson resides in the Millboro section of Bath County. She will begin her duties as tourism director on Monday, Aug. 16.
