HOPEWELL – Rosemary Westerman Butterworth died Monday, Aug. 30, 2010.

She was the widow of Harold Alvin “Bully” Butterworth.

The daughter of Elmer C. and Katie Mae Westerman, she was born Nov. 16, 1926 in Clifton Forge.

After graduating from Clifton Forge High School in 1944, she attended Mary Washington College where she graduated in 1948. She then moved to Hopewell where she taught the seventh grade for many years in the Hopewell School System.

She was a former member of the Hopewell Junior Woman’s Club, a founding member of the Patrons Committee for the James River Ball, a former member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and a member of First United Methodist Church in Hopewell.

She is survived by two children, H. Curtis Butterworth (Donna) and Barbara B. Batts (Phil); six grandchildren, Christopher Curtis Lilley (Sara), Katie Lilley Odell (John), Michael Cameron Lilley, Brandon P. Butterworth (Jessica), Brooke Ashley Butterworth and Bennett Douglas Batts; one great grandchild, Carter Reynoldson Butterworth and numerous nieces and nephews; a brother, Elmer C. Westerman Jr. (Mary Ellen) of Fincastle, and a sister, Barbara W. Newlon (Howard) of Charlottesville.

A funeral service was conducted Thursday at 11 a. m. at the First United Methodist Church in Hopewell with the Rev. Dr. Michael Browder officiating.

Interment was in the Appomattox Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Church, 502 W. Broadway, Hopewell, Va. 23860.

J. T. Morris and Son Funeral Home in Hopewall was in charge of arrangements.
