John William O’Brien Jr., 94, died Saturday morning, June 5, 2010, at South Roanoke Nursing Home.
Mr. O’Brien was born Feb. 22, 1916, in Covington a son of the late John W. and Cecil Ola Reid O’Brien.
He was a veteran of World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in North Africa and the Pacific.
He had retired in 1978 as a master electrician from MeadWestvaco in Covington. He was a member of Edgemont Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Georgetta Francis O’Brien and by his second wife, Betty Crawford O’Brien, and also by a sister, Tootsie Wolfe.
Surviving are two sons, James R. O’Brien and John F. O’Brien, both of New Castle.
A funeral service was conducted this morning at 11 a.m. from the graveside in Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Donnie Bowker officiating.
The family requests memorial contributions in Mr. O’Brien’s name be made to Covington Meals on Wheels, in care of the League of Older Americans, P.O. Box 725, Covington, Va. 24426.
