DSLCC Offering Computer Courses During Fall Semester

CLIFTON FORGE — Dabney S. Lancaster Community College is offering a variety of computer courses for beginners as well as more advanced students on the DSLCC Clifton Forge campus this fall.

All courses will be taught by Ed Mays in Room 504, McCarthy Hall.  Students may purchase the accompanying textbook at the DSLCC bookstore or from the instructor the first night of class. Students should also bring a 2 gigabyte flash drive.

Computers for Absolute Beginners: For anyone who is intimidated by computers, this course will get you started. Mondays, Sept. 16-30, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuition: $65.

Introduction to Comput-ers I: A continuation of the beginner course or for anyone with some computer experience. Keyboarding skills are helpful. Mondays, Oct. 7-21, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuition: $65.

Excel for Absolute Begin-ners: A basic introduction to Excel 2010 for those who are totally intimidated by Excel. This course prepares students for other computer courses that go into greater detail concerning Excel’s many features. Monday, Oct. 28, 6 to 8:30 p.m.  Tuition: $35. No book required, but students should bring a 2 gigabyte flash drive.

Introduction to Comput-ers II: A continuation of the Intro I course, or for anyone who wishes to learn the basics of Excel and PowerPoint 2010. Mondays, Nov. 4-18, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuition: $65.  

Computers Just for Fun!: Students will be shown how to surf the Internet, create a flyer, attach photos and produce a simple PowerPoint presentation using clip art and other great features found in PowerPoint. Wednesdays, Sept. 18-25, 6 to 8 p.m., Tuition: $45. No book required, but students should bring a 2 gigabyte flash drive.

Excel 2010, Level 1: Students will learn to design work sheets, work with formulas and functions and create charts with Excel 2010. Students should have prior computer knowledge as well as basic knowledge of Excel or be familiar with working with spreadsheets, or previously completed Introduction to Computers II. 

Mondays, Dec. 2-16, 6 to 9 p.m., $85.

Word 2010, Level 1: Learn to create, save, and retrieve documents, generate business letters, develop a memorandum and report, and learn how to use mail merge. Basic keyboarding skills are necessary. $85. Wednesdays, Oct. 2-16, 6 to 9 p.m.
