Clifton Forge Lions Convene

CLIFTON FORGE — The Clifton Forge Lions Club met at Scott Hill July 25 and Aug. 8.

President David Davis presided over both meetings and the evening meal was prepared and served by club member Ella Lebleu assisted by Mae Hughes.

July 25 Meeting

Skip McMullen led a group sing at the July 25th meeting and Don Carter led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. The Rev. Glen Linthicum gave the evening prayer.
Twelve members and one guest attended.

Announcements:

— The sight Committee reported 365 pairs of glasses were delivered to the Lion Recycling Center in Roanoke July 18. This brings the year total to 871.

— McMullen  reported a shipment of brooms and mops have arrived to be used in fundraising.

Under club business, it was announced that a side walk sale for the brooms and mops will be held at Clifton Forge Kroger Store Aug. 3 from 9 a. m. to 1 p. m. The price of the heavy duty broom will be $12.50.

The annual picnic will be held Aug. 22 and it will also be Ladies Night.

Guest speaker was Edward Stein, commonwealths attorney for Alleghany County, including Clifton Forge, and Covington.

He shared past experiences from his office over the years and explained his duties in dealing with persons who have problems with the laws of the state.

The attencance prize was not awarded and Linthicum won the 50/50. Mascot Tom went home with Davis.

The next meeting will be Aug. 8 at Scott Hill.

August 8 Meeting

John Myles led the Pledge Allegiance to the flag and the Rev. Glen Linthicum gave the evening prayer. Skip McMullen led a group sing.

There were 12 Lions and one guest attending.

Announcements:

— The annual picnic and Ladies Night will be held Aug. 22 at Scott hill.

— The fall conference will be held Stept. 6 and 7 in Staunton.

— The next zone meeting will be held in Buena Vista Aug. 12. Officers are encouraged to attend.

Club Business:

Members issued a thank you to residents in the Highlands who pruchased brooms and mops at the sale held at the Kroger Store Aug. 3 Over $800 was raised which will be applied to the club’s eye glasses program.

The next broom and mop sale will be held during the annual Fall Foliage Festival in October in Clifton Forge.

The attendance prize was won by Bill Colvin and the 50/50 was won by Linthicum.

Mascot Tom went home with McMullen. The next meeting will be Aug. 22 at Scott Hill.
