There is no charge to list upcoming events, however, other than ongoing meetings, items are limited to no more than two weeks before the event. Church items are limited to benefits, dinners and yard or bake sales and are published only during the week of the event. Non-profit group yard and bake sales and family reunions and open houses are also published only during the week the event is being held.

Election: The Alleghany County-Covington-Clifton Forge Democratic Party will hold a special election at 7:30 p.m. at Covington City Hall. Contact Robert Johnson for more information, 958-9220.
Saturday, Aug. 31
Bloodmobile: The American Red Cross will hold a Bloodmobile from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Covington High School.
Community Picnic/Gospel Sing: The seventh annual Nicelytown community picnic and gospel sing will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Route 42, one mile from Interstate 64 Exit 29. Food will be served at 5 p.m. with meat and drinks provided (bring covered dish and desert). Music will begin at 6:30 p.m., featuring The Announcers and Fishers of Men. Fireworks wil be set off at 8:45 p.m.

Reunion: The annual Jackson-Johnson reunion will be held at the Marshall Farm, Wiley Pavilion. Registration at 11 a.m., lunch at 1 p.m. Bring enough food for your family and to share with others. Call 863-4087 or 965-3382 for directions.

CHS Class Of 1960: Friends of Covington High School will meet ffor dinner at 6 p.m. at Miller’s Cafe, Low Moor.
Retired Teachers: The Alleghany Retired Teachers Association will meet at 10:45 a.m. at Temple Baptist Church in Covington. P. Coles of LOA will share information on the League of Older Americans.
