MeadWestvaco has announced five position changes at the Covington mill which involve Jeff Smith, Dean Muterspaugh, Gary Barger, Josh Taube and Kenny Nesselrodt.
Jeff Smith has accepted the position of Technical Sales Service representative. In this position, Smith provides technical support for the west coast customers of the Food Packaging Strategic Business Unit (SBU).
He reports to Jay Woodson, technical manager for Food Packaging SBU.
Smith graduated from Miami University with a B. S. degree in Applied Science-Paper Science Engineering, and received his M.B.A. degree from Lynchburg College. He is a certified Kepner-Tregoe problem solving program leader.
He began his career at Georgia Pacific at Big Island in 1991 as a process engineer and was later promoted to shift supervisor and then technical supervisor for the paper machines.
In 1997, he moved to International Paper Caraustar in Versailles, Conn., as a coating and additives area supervisor. Smith joined MWV in 2000 at the Chillicothe, Ohio, mill as a machine supervisor and later became a research specialist.
He then accepted a position as technical manager for diagnostics and process improvement at MWV’s Center for Packaging Innovation in Raleigh, N.C. in 2006. Smith assisted with the Focus 2008 diagnostic at the Covington mill while in this position. He moved to the Evadale mill in 2009 as a paper machine supervisor and then an engineer.
Dean Muterspaugh has accepted the position of fiberline assistant superintendent in the Unbleached Pulp Mill. In this position, he is responsible for supervising the overall operations of the Unbleached Pulp Mill. Muterspaugh reports to Craig Lane, fiberline superintendent.
Muterspaugh graduated from Alleghany High School and prior to joining MWV, he worked as a trackman for the Chessie System.
He began his career with MWV at the Low Moor Converting and Services facility in June of 1985 as an operator. In 1997, he moved to the position of shift-coordinator.
Muterspaugh transferred to the Covington mill in 1999 as a fill-in foreman in the Unbleached Pulp Mill and then moved to operations coordinator for Bleach Room. Since 2007, he has held the position of fiberline assistant superintendent-Bleach Room.
Gary Barger has accepted the poisiton of fiberline assistant superintendent in the woodyard. In this position, he is responsible for supervising the overall operations of the woodyard. Barger reports to Craig Lane, fiberline superintendent.
Barger graduated from James River High School and received his B. S. degree in Civil Engineering in 1974 from Virginia Tech. After graduation, he joined International Paper Company in Georgetown, S. C., as an engineer in the Engineering Department. He then accepted a position as a process engineer in the Pulp Mill where he was later promoted to senior process engineer.
Barger joined MWV in 1979 as an engineer for the Unbleached Pulp Mill, CL02 Plant and Bleach Room areas. He was promoted to Unbleached Pulp Mill supervisor in 1982.
Barger worked on the pulping expansion project for the new digester computer control, brown stock washer, and oxygen delignification installation from 1992 to 1993. Beginning in 1995, he served as pulp process supervisor working on pulping expansion projects before returning to his previous position of unbleached pulp mill supervisor in 1998.
Barger was promoted to assistant Unbeached Pulp Mill superintendent in 1999.
Josh Taube has accepted the position of fiberline assistant superintendent in the Bleach Room. In this position, he will be responsible for supervising the overall operations of the Bleach Room and the CL02 plant. Taube reports to Craig Lane, fiberline superintendent.
Taube earned his B. S. degree in Pulp and Paper from Western Michigan University in 1997 and his M.B.A. from Averett University in 2004. He began his career with Buckman Laboratories as a sales representatives in 1998. He was promoted to district sales representative and then senior sales representative.
Taube joined MWV in 2008 as a fiberline senior engineer.
Kenny Nesselrodt has accepted the position of Waste Treatment Plant operations coordinator, engineer. In this position, Nesselrodt performs validator duties which include generating and validating work requests, approving work orders, prioritizing work, and driving performance. In addition, he deals with the day-to-day runability of the waste treatment plant. Nesselrodt reports to Jill Shifflett, WTP area supervisor.
Nesselrodt graduated from Virginia Tech in 2009 with a B. S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. From 2000 to 2004, Nesselrodt worked for Liberty Mountain Wood Products where he was promoted ot the position of assistant manger. He then worked for Virginia Tech Communications Network services as a field technician assistant.
In 2009, Nesselrodt joined WMV as a process engineer in the Technical Department at the Covington mill.
